I am a Toronto-based lawyer with over twenty years of experience in the public, private and corporate sectors. My law practice is dedicated to meeting the legal needs and challenges of hospitals, healthcare organizations, physicians, regulated health professionals, universities and organizations in the broader public sector.

From 2004 to 2012, I was in-house General Counsel to St. Michael’s Hospital, a large, inner-city academic health sciences centre in Toronto with significant clinical, research, educational, and corporate activities.

In this role, I worked across all levels of the organization, from the Board, CEO, and CFO to physicians, other allied health professionals, and administrators providing real-time and practical legal advice on a broad range of day-to-day and emerging clinical, operational and strategic issues and business concerns. In so doing, I translated often complex legal issues into pragmatic advice taking into account risk, operational structures, and organizational needs.

In addition to my experience at St. Michael’s, my law career has included private practice in Bay Street law firms and government practice in the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of the Attorney General. The breadth and depth of my legal experience gives me a unique perspective and deep expertise across legal subject-matter domains, professional and clinical disciplines, and institutional contexts.

My front-line and real-time experience in the dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment helps me to quickly pinpoint and understand the client’s legal and business needs and provide targeted, practical and relevant legal advice, focused on responding to the client’s needs and interests.

With my background and experience, I am very familiar with the issues faced by healthcare organizations and am therefore able to provide professional expertise and practical advice to help navigate clients through uncertain situations with clarity and confidence.

I am fluently bilingual in French and English.

I was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988, after earning my law degree from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) from University College, University of Toronto.
